This Prebends Cottage framed print can be yours for £25 in colour or black and white, but also in ‘landscape’ or ‘portrait’ orientation…
Prebends Cottage was home for the then ‘toll keeper’ whose job was to make sure anyone wanting to cross Prebends Bridge, parted with some well earned cash in order to do so. Let’s be honest, bridges are a costly option when it comes to crossing from one side to another efficiently and quickly, hence the nominal fee incurred by those who could afford such things.

The ‘three arched’ stone iconic bridge was designed by George Nicholson and built between 1772 – 1778, replacing its washed-away predecessor by order of the Dean of Durham. It served as a private road for the Dean and Chapter of Durham, allowing access from the south through the Watergate.
Prebends Cottage is now a Grade II-listed cottage and has become one of the most photographed location’s in the historic City of Durham.
