This is a winter evening shot of the National Glass Centre in Sunderland which is scheduled to close its doors in July 2026…
The National Glass Centre (NGC) is currently the subject of a raging debate between the owners, University of Sunderland and Sunderland City Council with campaigners claiming there has been a “managed decline” of the NGC from the university.
The NGC will [as it stands] close on 31 July 2026 which is the reason this shot was taken. It remains a central community hub where people can meet, interact and witness ‘live glass blowing’.
