Tommy was created by talented local arts, Ray Lonsdale who is now famous for his incredible Corden steel sculptures positioned in many locations.

It was on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month that the guns on the Western Front finally ceased firing in 1918; hence the name Eleven ‘O’ One or Tommy to the local north easterners.

Dressed in his full equipment including his puttees, belt, pouches and Lee Enfield rifle, Tommy stands, or rather sits, nearly 3 meters from his boots to the top of his weathered helmet.
