Renowned for its powerful waves and strong currents, the North Sea can be a dangerous place for everyone including photographers…
Well known and respected by those who dare to venture into its welcoming ‘arms’, the North Sea has a dark side that can often change quickly, luring its unsuspecting victims into a false sense of comfort and safety.
The Perfect Shot
Like many coastal towns and cities, Seaburn and Roker in Sunderland can be a fantastic place for any budding photographers looking for a ‘rogue wave’ or unpredictable swell. I can honestly say from experience that capturing the ‘perfect shot’ is, without doubt, exhilarating, risky and pure madness rolled into one digital dream. If you’re planning that close up, remember to wear those unattractive waterproofs and never wait until it’s too late…
Safety first – always check the weather forecast and water temperature prior to even thinking about surfing, swimming or even paddling. Even the lowest of tides can generate strong currents; in reality, high tide can be less powerful and safer to swim in.
