Video and photographs of the Victorian Herd Groyne lighthouse which is situated in South Shields…
The space like Herd Groyne was built between 1861 – 1867 and was initially created to assist the flowing of the river while offering protection to the Littlehaven beach from any incoming heavy sea attacks.
To this day, the structure offers guidance and assistance to the incoming or passing mariners and still has one of the few operational ‘fog bells’.
The Herd Groyne continues to attract visitors and remains one of most popular and photographed landmarks in the north east of England.
